Olive Spider Step by Step

Hook - Drennan Emerger Size 12 or 14
Thread - Olive 8/0 Uni Thread
Hackle - Olive dyed Grizzley Hen (Hare Line)
Tail - 3 or 4 Olive dyed Grizzley Hen fibres
Body - Olive dyed Hare's Ear
Rib - Lagartun Fine oval gold.

Step 1

Start the thread behind the hook eye and after 3 turns tie in the olive dyed hen hackle.

Step 2

Continue to take the thread to a point above the barb, Tie in the tail fibres and the oval gold rib.

Wax the thread and dub a rough body.

Step 4

Rib the body with four even turns of the oval tinsel.

Wind the hackle, no more than two turns,Take the thread through the hackle and whip finish.

One of my own 'creations', this is a simple but effective early season pattern that works well on still and running water alike. It seems to work best when tied 'rough'.
